Talk Topic: Movin' on Up: 10 Ways to Become an Engineering Leader.
About the Speaker: Kimber Lockhart is Director of Engineering at Box, where she leads the web application engineering team that builds most new features on Box. Launched in 2011, Kimber was responsible for #newbox, a major redesign and rebuild of the Box user experience which marked a turning point in the company’s transition to the enterprise market. She's especially interested in Box's virality and usability, dreaming up, testing and implementing countless improvements over the last three years. Prior to Box, Kimber was co-founder and CEO of cloud computing startup Increo Solutions, funded by Draper Fisher Jurvetson. At Increo, she led the creation of Backboard, a web-based service that allows users to share and review documents in a secure space. Increo was later acquired by Box, in 2009.

Talk Topic: About Box: An Engineer's Perspective
About the Speaker: Samantha Paras is a Software Engineer at Box on the web application team, where she works full stack to add new features for end users. Her previous projects include adding security settings to Share Links, Social Workflow, and welcome messaging for new users. She holds a B.A. in Computer Science from U.C. Berkeley and previously interned at Pixar Animation Studios.
Talk Topic: Scaling MySQL for the Web
Tamar will discuss her experience transitioning Box from a single monolithic MySQL server to a horizontally scalable database architecture, all the while continuously serving billions of queries per day. She will share some of the key lessons learned, including best-practices for making fundamental architectural changes without adversely affecting functionality, and most importantly, without downtime.
About the Speaker: Tamar Bercovici is a Senior Software Engineer at Box where she specializes in scaling Box’s database architecture and ORM layer. Prior to Box, Tamar was an early-stage employee at XMPie (now a Xerox company), where she drove the development of the award winning uImage product. Tamar holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
